SAN MATEO COUNTY FAIR 2019 preview
The San Mateo County Fair 2019 kicks off Saturday 6/8 and features several new additions including a baby wallaby and a “Silent Disco”.
The baby wallaby is part of Aussie Kingdom, the only traveling Australian animal show in North America. Aussie Kingdom puts on a 25 minute show that features the wallabies and other animals from down under like kookaburras, dingoes, and sugar gliders. Other animal attractions include a petting zoo, pig racing, and pony rides. Fair goers can also feed butterflies at the Butterfly Adventures exhibit.
The “Silent Disco” is a dance party without speakers. Instead of the DJ playing the music out loud, it is streamed to wireless headphones. Fair goers can control the headphones to choose between rap and hip hop or alternative music. This means that people with two different musical tastes can share the dance floor. It also may be quite entertaining to sit back and watch someone dance their heart out in utter silence.
There will be several roving performers wandering around the fair including a juggler dressed like Elvis (Roberto the Magnificent) and a percussion group (Boom! Percussion) that will be beating on everything from drums to garbage cans.
The Mobile Glass Studio will be demonstrating glass blowing. They plan to make 100 different items during the run of the fair and use 200 lbs of glass in the process.
The San Mateo County Fair features a concert every night (7:30pm) as well as some special themed days meant to honor various groups. Several days also include discounts or even free tickets. Check out the schedule below.
