NICHELLE NICHOLS interview
Nichelle Nichols started off wanting to be a singer. She ended up becoming an icon on a classic television show that promoted equality and inspired a generation of space explorers.
I had a chance to speak with Ms. Nichols at Silicon Valley Comic Con 2016. She talked about her time on Star Trek, what Gene Roddenberry meant to her, working with NASA, and how Martin Luther King Jr. kept her from leaving the show.
After over 60 years of fame, Nichelle Nichols is planning to retire from the public spotlight with one last appearance. The Nichelle Nichols Farewell Celebration will take place May 1st – May 3rd 2020 in Burbank, CA. Many Star Trek alumni are scheduled to attend including Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov- TOS), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi- Next Generation), Wil Wheaton (Wesley Crusher- Next Generation), Dough Jones (Saru- Discovery), Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham- Discovery), Rod Roddenberry (son of Gene Roddenberry), and Chris Doohan (son of James Doohan).
